Birthright

|
We are only human, is that so hard I wonder, to comprehend? How unfair it is to grow up in a society where every movement is judged and criticized. One does not chose their fate, similarly when one is born into a particular family does it become their birthright to be in the limelight every moment of their lives?
Today we proudly declare that we are a democratic nation, at least most of us live in democratic (supposedly) countries. Everyone is an equal, and it is a people's nation for the people and all that sort of hippie talk. We've eliminated hierarchy and monarchies (and all those other Archies and Jugheads :P). Or have we?
If each of us were born into different families, how different our lives could be.
Is it fair to discuss the merits and demerits of one person, just because we all know their name when we have no real idea as to what they have to face and go through every single day? Maybe placed in their position, we would crash and crumble... succumb to our weaknesses. For once instead of discussing what our affluent neighbors do after 9 p.m. for once wouldn't it be nice to ponder upon how much strength it would require to wake up every day and face your demons, stare them straight in the eye?
None of us can live forever in solitude, loneliness kills. What would it be like to walk beside friends who ridicule you behind your back and laugh with them, knowing how they feel about you? The judgment is biased of course, because they envy your jewels and your car, they offer you companionship in turn for their 15 minutes... and when they are satisfied they leave. You know the cycle of events, and you can predict their moves, but you comply because it is your weakness and you cannot bear to be alone. Besides, even though you do not fancy what you have, you know they may and you are more than willing to share after all it holds less than no meaning for you.
You go to classes where even the teachers brush you off as a rich snob or a famous good-for-nothing (take your pick) but where is your blame? Did you chose your parents? Or your siblings. For once, take a look behind the glitz and the glamor, the fame and the name. How many people live desperate, lonely lives... simply because they were born to do so?
No there is no need for pity really, you don't even have to understand. Just let the thought lie just for a little while, in your minds... how lovely it would be for these people, to not feel the hate and to not have a million enemies... to have one genuine friend and not be constantly judged... just for a little while?
